Ewon Connectivity - VPN
print icon

This article covers enabling and disabling VPN access to the Ewon.

These instructions are specifically focused on connecting to Pani’s server for remote support on a currently active Ewon, but these methods can be used to connect to any Talk2M server.

Enable

Use the VPN Wizard to make a connection to the VPN server. Ensure an active Internet connection is present before running the Wizard.

CRITICAL:
This process should be done while accessing the Ewon from the LAN interface. Using the Wizard will automatically disable access to the graphic user interface (GUI) via the WAN interface.

1.1 Wizard

  • Using the Ewon graphic user interface (GUI), navigate to Setup > Wizards.
  • On the right hand side of the screen, click on VPN to launch the VPN Wizard.

  • Click Configure Talk2M connectivity.

  • Click Register with ACTIVATION KEY.
  • Enter the key provided by Pani. The key will look something like:  A46801fb05e5e09d7671068b25313
  • Allow the Ewon to test the VPN connection and if everything is configured correctly, the Diagnosis will be green and state SUCCESS. In the bottom right of the GUI there will not be a green cloud icon when the VPN is connected.

1.2 Security

When using the VPN Wizard, the WAN Protection level will be automatically set to Discard all

This means the Ewon will be inaccessible from the WAN side except through the VPN. If you accessed the Ewon GUI locally from the WAN interface this setting will need to be reset.

This setting can be found under Setup > System > Communication > Networking > Security.

Disable

  • Navigate to Setup > System > Communication > Networking > VPN Connection > Main setup.
  • Select radio button Disable VPN to disable the VPN. The green cloud icon in the bottom right of the GUI will now turn grey.

NOTE:  To re-enable the VPN, re-select the radio button Establish outgoing VPN to server.
